Blog Post #4

http://edm310.blogspot.com/2010/02/dont-teach-your-kids-this-stuff.html by Dr. Scott McLeod
I agree but also disagree with McLeod on his posting. I believe that yes, if unmonitored the internet can be and is a dangerous place for many young students. However, I feel that if children are taught a proper and safe way to use technology, it can be an invaluable resource for the rest of their lives. Dr. Scott McLeod is a professor at Iowa State University, and is an Associate Professor in the Educational Administration program.

The iSchool Initiative http://www.ischoolinitiative.com/
I think this is a great idea for the classrooms of tomorrow. There of course are certain specifications and legalities that would have to be met before something like this could be formed. But, overall I feel that it is a great new concept.

In the long run, it would definitely help our environment and the school system's bottom line. This could also be incorporated into college level courses allowing students to spend less on books and have less to tote around between classes. I think that a system like this would improve our public school system greatly, and hopefully have some positive effects on college life as well.

The Lost Generation
In the beginning the speaker tells of our current society which is one that people are used to quick fixes to their problems, and it is acceptable for our society to destroy our planet without a care for those in the future. The technique she used was very interesting and memorable.

Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir
In Whitacre's Virtual Choir it is truly outstanding that 185 people who have never met, were able to get together via the internet to conduct a wonderful artistic expression in song. This helps to show that the internet is not only here to use for resources, but also can be used to inspire our minds.

  1. You made some really good points. I really liked how you pointed out in The Lost Generations how our society is really all about quick fixes. I believe that its a huge problem for us today. I also thought that the Eric Whitacre's Choir was amazing. I can not believe that all the people working on it never were in the same room. I think that was truly an amazing thing technology can offer us.
